65th Independence Day celebrated at Infant Jesus Shrine
It is a day of double celebration for Catholics in India. India, our Motherland was freed from the clutches of the British and thus attained its political liberation. Blessed Virgin Mary after completing her life on earth was assumed into Heaven Body and soul. That's the feast of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary which Catholics commemorate today whole over the world. Mount Carmel Feast Celebrated
The Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel popularly known as the Feast of the Scapular was celebrated on 15th July, 2012 at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore along with the faithful. There were three masses in the morning and the festal mass was at 5.30 pm presided over by Rev. Fr. Vincent Monteiro, Director of Mangalore Diocesan Pastoral Institute, Bajjody. Upholding the importance of the scapular devotion to the feast and in keeping with tradition, scapulars were distributed to the faithful after all the masses. 8 read more

11th Carmelite Priest of the Year Ordained
In a solemn ordination ceremony Carmelite Deacon Reeevan Prajwal Cutinha, was ordained as priest by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Henry D'Souza, Bishop of Bellary at St. Sebastian Church, Bendur, Mangalore on 7th day of the 7th Month (7th July, 2012). Fr. Stephen Pereira OCD animated the liturgy. The ceremony that began with the solemn Mass and the ordination ritual culminated in a grand reception followed by lunch in the Parish Hall. Fr. Sunil compered the program and Fr. The Carmelites in Karnataka: The Teresian Carmelites had established themselves in Goa and in Kerala in the seventeenth century. And since the region formerly known as the Carnatic, lies between Goa in the north and Kerala in the South, the Carmelites had inevitably to pass through Karnataka when proceeding by land from Goa to Kerala. And it is not surprising to find them residing at least on a temporary basis, in places like Bijapur, which form part of today's Karnataka. In his ‘Viaggio alle Indie Orientali’ Fr. Vincent Mary of St Catherine, has left us interesting descriptions of the beliefs, customs, feasts of the Canara of his time, and even of the scenic beauties and the cultivation and other aspects of life. But he found the Christians greatly neglected. And, on his reporting the need of the Canara Christians to the Holy See, Mangalore secured its first Vicar Apostolic in 1677. read more...
